Since its founding in 1901, The Junior League has evolved into one of the oldest, largest, and most effective women’s volunteer organizations in the world, encompassing 155,000 women in 293 Leagues in four countries. Our mandate has not wavered: To develop exceptionally qualified civic leaders who collaborate with community partners to identify a community’s most urgent needs and address them with meaningful and relevant programs and initiatives that improve lives. The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc. (JLNVB) has proudly served South Hampton Roads since 1925, focusing our efforts on assisting local women and children in need.

We are so committed that there are virtually no nonprofit organizations in South Hampton Roads that we haven’t positively impacted through our trained volunteers’  community hours or through monetary donations. For example, in the 2013 – 2014 League year, we continued our support of long-standing community partners such as Excellence Girls’ Club, Ronald McDonald House, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, ForKids, Inc. and St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, among others, and developed new partnerships with organizations such as Park Place Child Life Center and Care by Community.

This year we are expanding our partnership with CHKD in its first-in-Virginia donor milk bank program in an effort to provide needed nourishment to NICU babies. JLNVB volunteers will continue to assist with the local pick-up of donor breast milk in the South Hampton Roads area, provide information to the community regarding the Milk Bank and its mission, assist with donor screening, and work in the Milk Bank office. Looking ahead to the bigger picture, JLNVB would like to partner with other Leagues in Virginia (Charlottesville, Richmond, and Northern Virginia) in an effort to provide even more milk to the bank!

Your contribution to the JLNVB allows us to not only assist organizations and programs in the community but also to:

• Host our annual Kids in the Kitchen program, multiple Mobile Kids in the Kitchen events, Little Hands, Big Difference, and a blood drive for the American Red Cross
• Hold successful fundraising events, such as Touch-a-Truck
• Train future leaders of our community through local and national leadership
