During the 2017-2018 league year, we will conclude our effort to reevaluate our community projects and strengthen our reach to address the needs of the women and children throughout Hampton Roads. This past spring, the Community Impact Development Committee sponsored a Membership Survey to gauge the interests of members and identify the top six community impact areas. As determined by a survey of our membership, the Community Impact Development has started more thoroughly researching the following issues:
- Women’s Health
- Career Readiness/Financial Literacy
- Childhood Literacy
- Childhood Obesity/Food Insecurity
- Sexual Assault Prevention and Response
This fall the Community Council will work diligently to inform JLNVB members not only about each of these issues, but as well as to identify available community partners and potential projects. At the January 2018 General Membership Meeting, we will vote to pursue two issues for implementation. Education efforts will be comprehensive and the information will be communicated through both oral and print mediums. The Community Council will be providing regular updates through training events, movie screenings and podcasts. These efforts will ensure members are confident on their choices in January 2018. Please see our Blog page to learn more about our community issues and potential community projects via articles written by JLNVB members.
