Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater – Supplies for Acts of Kindness Program

The Elijah Foundation – To develop, print and distribute books to children with special needs

ForKids – To expand Hot Meals and Homework Program

Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast – For transportation to and from Girl Scout Meetings

Lee’s Friends – Funding for Afternoon of Theater

New Beginnings Development Services – For expansion/launch of Independent Living Component

St. Columba Ecumenical Ministries – Funding to restock Food Pantry for Emergency Needs

Tidewater Arts Outreach – Support for three 1-hour music programs at ten locations

The Up Center / Department of Children and Family – Funding for the purchase of safety equipment for children

Virginia Beach Court Appointed Special Advocates – Funding to print and distribute annual newsletter

2006-2007 Community Response Fund Recipients

Park Place School – purchasing computers and projectors to assist with an academic intervention program for academically at-risk, low-income elementary students.

Cerebral Palsy of Virginia – providing children and adults with disabilities a summer enrichment program of social recreation activities such as field trips to museums which encourage inclusion in our community .

EDMARC – funding Mom’s Support Program for grieving mother/female caregivers struggling with critical illness or death of a child.

Virginia Symphony Orchestra – presenting “Music in the Schools“, a music enrichment education program to selected Norfolk schools to provide the predominately African American students in-depth exposure to classical musical instruments.

Be a Reader (BEAR) Literacy Program of United Jewish Federation of Tidewater – purchasing books/supplies for young children participating in this program to improve their reading skills in grades 1-3 in Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach schools.

F.O.R. Kids Hot Meals & Homework – after school tutoring for children whose families have graduated from homeless programs. Each participating child takes home a hot nutritious meal for their entire family, serving as incentive for parents to be involved.

The Frances C. McIntyre Education Foundation – providing emergency Ready-Packs containing supplies like diapers, baby bottles, food, and formula for children three years and under removed from unsafe environments by Norfolk’s Child Protective Services.

St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children – partial funding to purchase ambulette to transport children to doctors’ visits and other appointments. Current van can hold only one wheelchair and does not accommodate older, larger children.

Due to budgetary constraints, regrettably we are unable to offer Community Response Grants this Fall. Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach is optimistic funds will be available in the 2010-2011 year.
