Please join us for the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach’s 8th Annual Touch-a-Truck event presented by MEB!

Touch-a-Truck is a hands-on learning experience for children to explore a variety of large trucks, first responder vehicles, construction vehicles and much more!  Children will be able to get behind the wheel of their favorite vehicles, honk the horns, work the lights and sirens and meet the professionals who build, protect and serve our community. New this year is the GamerBus where children 6 years and up can play family-friendly video games in a climate-controlled mobile gaming bus. There will also be other fun family activities all day long, including face painting, fairy hair, character appearances, giveaways and more.

LOCATION – GREENBRIER MALL

1401 Greenbrier Pkwy, Chesapeake, VA 23320

Touch-a-Truck will be in the parking lot near Ring Rd between Macy’s and Dillard’s.  The closest cross street is Crossways Blvd.  Please see the event area outlined below:

HOURS

9:00am – 10:00am – VIP hour

10:00am – 3:00pm – Open to the general public

2:00pm – 3:00pm – Quiet hour   

VIP HOUR

9:00am – 10:00am will be VIP Hour where ticketholders will get to enjoy the event for a full hour before it is open to the general public.  Avoid the crowds and buy your VIP tickets early.  They sell out fast!  See the Tickets section below for information on VIP tickets and other benefits.

QUIET HOUR

2:00pm – 3:00pm will be Quiet Hour.  There will be no horns, lights or sirens to allow those with special needs or sensitive hearing to attend and enjoy the event.  During the hours prior, children will be encouraged to honk the horns, sound the sirens, etc. and it can get very loud, so consider bringing ear protection for very young children or adults who may be startled by the noise.   

PARKING

Please park anywhere in the Greenbrier Mall parking lot outside of the event area.

• **NEW** The Gamer Bus where children 6 years and up can play family-friendly video games in a climate-controlled mobile gaming bus

• **NEW** Colgate Mobile Dental Van
• Fire trucks, including a 1968 GMC Pumper
• Police vehicles, including cars, motorcycle, dive team trailer, police boat, SWAT truck, command bus, armored vehicle
• Construction and public works vehicles, including wheel loaders, front loader, excavators
• Bridge Inspection truck
• Recycling and garbage trucks
• Rotator trucks
• Roll-off truck with dumpster
• Vactor sewer truck
• Chesapeake Library Outreach van
• And more!

MUSIC

We will have the following radio stations at our event playing a variety of musical favorites.

WEATHER

This is a rain or shine event!  The majority of this event will be outside without any covering so please bring your umbrellas in the event of rain in the forecast.  Sunscreen is also advised.

RESTROOMS

Porta potties will be available on-site, including one handicap porta potty that is wheelchair accessible. 

FOOD

No coolers or outside food or drinks are allowed.  Food trucks and vendors will offer breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks for purchase.  We’ll also have other snacks and drinks available for purchase at the Junior League tent.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE EVENT?

Feel free to bring:

• Strollers or wagons for infants and toddlers.  The parking lot is stroller and wagon-friendly
• Service animals
• Cameras and smart phones to take photos.  Please share your photos on social media so we can see how much fun you’re having!  Use #TouchATruck and #JLNVB when posting.

Please do not bring:​

• Coolers
• Outside food and drinks
• Cigarettes or e-cigs as this is a smoke-free event
• Bicycles and scooters

WHAT IS THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF NORFOLK-VIRGINIA BEACH (JLNVB)?

We are an organization of nearly 400 diverse women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving our community.  Since 1925, the JLNVB has focused our volunteer efforts to identify unmet needs in the community to create sustainable change and strategic impact.  Annually, the JLNVB provides in excess of 7,000 volunteer service hours to the betterment of the community.  Touch-a-Truck is a major fundraiser for the JLNVB and has successfully raised thousands of dollars to enhance the lives of women and children living in South Hampton Roads.
