On Friday, September 10, at 8:00 a.m., the Taylor-Whittle House was flooded with Hampton Roads Sanitation District volunteers eager to work. The 22 volunteers painted the outside patio, first floor small dining room and third floor storage rooms; installed motion detecting flood lights; removed heavy outdated equipment from the third floor; cleaned and organized the kitchen, second floor and third floor storage rooms. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and have significantly improved the utility of the Taylor-Whittle House. Thanks to the HRSD team for a job well done!

Home For The Holidays Tour 2010

This December, the JLNVB Headquarters Committee outdid expectations as the Taylor-Whittle House was transformed from a hard-working headquarters to a spectacular display of period dĂ©cor with holiday elegance for the Home For The Holidays Tour 2010. Greenery was acquired from several local sources and members brought magnolia cuttings and red berry clusters from their own yards to tie it all together with Southern flair. We’d like to give special recognition to the Norfolk Farm Market and Terra Firma Landscaping for all the wonderful greenery that was donated to the Taylor-Whittle House, and especially for the beautiful Christmas tree that was also donated!

The Home For The Holidays Tour is put on each year to allow locals, visitors and all lovers of history to get a glimpse of historic Norfolk as sites around Downtown and West Freemason are decked out in full holiday regalia for the free tour event. Despite wind and rain, the tour was a success and the Taylor-Whittle House enjoyed a steady stream of visitors…some from other parts of the world!

Congratulations to the Headquarters Committee for creating a holiday display that warmed the hearts of visitors on even the coldest, rainiest day! As always, The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc. is proud to call the Taylor-Whittle House home.

THANK YOU to the ladies who spent time decorating the Taylor-Whittle House this year!
